The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) Florida aims to rapidly develop vaccines and therapeutics for infectious diseases and cancer, and to boost immune response in aging populations.
Teams at the institute are working on discoveries that could eliminate HIV from infected patients and they have contributed to significant advances against melanoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, yellow fever and dengue fever. Scientific Director, Dr. Rafick Sékaly, previously led one of the world’s leading HIV vaccine development groups at the University of Montreal. He has led more than 10 clinical trials aimed at reconstituting the immune response in patients with HIV, HCV and cancer.
VGTI Florida has formed research collaborations with local organizations such as Martin Memorial Health Systems, Moffitt Cancer Center, and the University of Miami.
