Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute has been exploring the ocean for more than 40 years. Its 140 scientists, engineers and support staff have established the institute as a leading educational and research facility to support the conservation and efficient use of marine resources.
Deep sea exploration, at depths as great as 3,000 feet, is discovering new organisms that may have medicinal applications. Closer to shore, they investigate marine ecosystems and monitor the impact of human activities, while the institute’s aquaculture researchers are finding innovative new ways to farm seafood. Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute became a part of Florida Atlantic University in 2007.
